| Excited to get started:) |
A week or so ago, we visited the
East Branch Forest Preserve. This 502-acre preserve is located in Glendale Heights and is mostly a natural wetland along the East Branch of the DuPage River. It contains lakes, marshes and wildlife habitats and is an excellent place to observe grassland birds, shorebirds, and waterfowl. It also provides the surrounding community with improved water quality and stormwater control.

There is an 0.8 mile grass and gravel trail around Rush Lake and several unmarked footpaths. We had a nice leisurely walk around the lake skipping rocks on the ice and searching for snail and clam shells. Although we're always on the lookout for wildlife, we usually don't see much due to our noise factor:). Our main goal is just to get outside, get moving with the family and enjoy nature - mission accomplished!

Looks like a really fun outing!
ReplyDeleteLooks like you enjoyed some gorgeous weather. And what a nice park/preserve!
ReplyDeleteI love to take my kids hiking on the Appalachian Trail. It's very close; plus it's fun to hang out at the shelters pretending to be pioneers.
Nice day out!
ReplyDeleteWe have some great trails about 10 minutes from our house. I love taking my youngest there. Or we go to a state park an hour or so away to hike.
Love it! we just took everyone to the conservation area on the weekend. It was fun!
ReplyDeleteI especially liked skittering the stones across the ice for that beautiful musical sound!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a great place to get everyone out there and moving!
ReplyDeleteLove it! We go to a nature center nearby when I need to burn some kid energy : )
