Wilderness Wednesday - Palos Forest Preserve

Kovas and I had a chance to run our long run together this past week.  We chose to head down to Palos  Forest Preserve and ran the yellow and orange loops with some minor detours along the way.

Palos Forest Preserve
Mostly known as a mountain biking destination, it has a mix of beautiful hilly single track and crushed gravel trails.  Although no mountains per se, the undulating terrain was a challenge and a great training run for our North Face trail races this September.

Beautiful trail

Crushed gravel trail - tested out carrying my own supplies with this
CamelBak waist pack - no Tazer on his bike as my sherpa:)
All finished:)  13.1 for me, 14 for Kovas
An excellent location and partner for my first true long trail run!

What is your favorite trail to run on?

  1. This looks like a beautiful place to run!

  2. Such a great place to run, and great company as well! :)

  3. Looks beautiful! My favorites are out west, but since I don't live out local state park has some really nice trails. I was just in western Md and ran on a really rocky trail that was tough for me to descend. Made me appreciate my less technical trails here!

  4. This looks like a little piece of Heaven. I love any and all trails. I just love being in nature :) makes me feel connected to everyone and everything and I have never felt more alive, than when I'm outside

  5. Great run! We have some fantastic trails in the St. Louis area...totally worth the hour drive when I have the time.

  6. That does look like a great place to train for North Face! There are so many trails up here; I cannot pick a favorite. Okay, maybe the ones with shade :)
