Tuesday Tidbits

The number of people who've finished a half-marathon (13.1 miles) has more than tripled since 2000, and a whopping 59 percent of finishers are the sports-bra—wearing gender, according to Running USA's 2012 State of the Sport report. Read more at Women's Health.

Looking for a fun activity for your kids that good for their health and the planet?  Check out National Geographic Kids "Run for the Planet".  The goal is to break two Guinness World Records:  most people running 100 meters in 24 hours (Oct. 26-27) and the longest chain of shoes (which will be recycled into athletic surfaces).

Doing something different may prevent Alzheimer's disease.  Regularly doing everyday tasks a bit differently - like brushing your teeth with your non dominant hand or taking a new route to work- encourages new pathways to form in the brain.  Runners who switch things up are doubly protected, as exercise is know to slow mental decline as well (Runner's World).

  1. Fun tidbits! I love reading these kinds of things, thanks for sharing and power to all the running women!

  2. Interesting combination of tidbits! Maybe if I wear a sports bra, I'll become a woman and ward off Alzheimer's?

Have you tried this gear? Something similar you like better? Something I should try? Let me know by leaving a comment!
